The Police Command in Enugu State has stated that 12 suspects have been arrested over a communal land dispute that left four people dead in two communities (Awha-Imezi and Oyofo-Oghe) in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state last week.
The Command also confirmed the murder of the people during the land clash.
These were contained in a statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, in Enugu on Sunday.
Ndukwe said the clash between the Oyofo-Oghe and Awha-Imezi communities took place on Friday at about 10:00 a.m.
“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahmed Ammani, has ordered the deployment of police operatives to the communities.
“The deployment is to maintain the normalcy already restored in the area after the clash.
“The clash led to the murder of four males and the serving ablaze of one tricycle and five motorcycles.
The police spokesman noted that preliminary investigation showed that the clash was due to land ownership tussle between the communities which had been on for years.
Recall that in the 80s and 90s, the two communities had destroyed houses, killed several people, yet they never made any attempt to resolve the boundary dispute.
