Chidoka Foundation offers free cancer, other diseases treatment

The Nkemefuna Foundation which has its base inObosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State has embarked on free Medical treatments for Cancer patients and other diseases. 

The exercise is tagged Nneka Chidoka Outreach Programme.

The free Medical Intervention took place yesterday at Neolife-Era Specialist Hospital New Cemetery Onitsha and drew numerous cancer patients and others suffering different ailments.

According to Mr. Ikechukwu Okafor the Media aide to the former Nigeria Aviation Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka, he disclosed that the cancer awareness, treatment and surgery program is being sponsored by his boss.

He said that Chief Chidoka established the outreach program in the memory of his late Mother, Mrs. Nneka Victoria Chidoka, stating that the Foundation has since May 2023 treated no fewer than 1000 patients especially those having cancer issues.

Mr Okafor pointed out that the ongoing cancer Intervention exercise is a follow up to the cancer awareness and screening which took place in May 2023 during the burial ceremony of Chief Chidoka’s mother, adding that the exercise would spann to St. John De Baptist Catholic Church Odoakpu Onitsha and Charity House Enugu State.

“All these patients you see here today have been screened during our cancer awareness program in May, this is a follow-up, and all of them needs further medical intervention which included; surgery and other treatments” he said.

The Minister’s image maker  recalled that his boss had held the similar medical intervention at Obosi twice and extended it to Ozubulu Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the State as well as Onitsha metropolis where he said they expected to meet with about 500 patients come Tuesday 29 August.

The National Screening Coordinator for Breast Without Spot ( BWS), Dr. Sola Otutayo in a chat with journalists noted that 820 women have been treated since Nneka Chidoka Outreach was established.

“In May 11, 2023, we attended 220 women who came for breast and cervical cancer screening which was properly sponsored and made available by Chief Osita Chidoka. 50 men were for prostrate screening and we as well been able to identify 24 male and female that had surgical intervention, Radiological procedure while some of them have laboratory procedure to do.” Dr Olutayo explained.

She said further that carvical cancer screening, breast cancer screening, prostrate screening, cryotherapy, surgical intervention, ultrasonography, mammography and X-ray of the spin are part of what would be screened and treated.

The medical practitioner lauded Chief Chidoka for his magnanimous acts , saying that he is a man who has interest of women at heart, just as she revealed that medical Heath care is expensive. 

Some patients who spoke with journalists commended the former Minister of Aviation for using his personal resources to save lives noting that Nkemefuna Foundation has bettered lives in the society.
