Wike vows to resuscitate Abuja mass transport system

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has said Abuja mass transport system must be repositioned to meet the transport needs of Abuja residents.

He decried the situation whereby Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company, operators of transport scheme loaned out buses for other uses without maintenance.

Wike said it was wrong for People to think that government business is not their business, and mismanage it.

According to him, legitimate measures Will be put in place to ensure that right things are done to revamp the transportation system.

Wike stated this when members of the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee Investigating ‘failed mass Transportation in Nigeria, visited him on Tuesday in Abuja.

The minister, also vowed to collect over N34 billion owed the FCT Administration through ground rents.

In his words: “I have calculated the debt from ground rent, and is about N34 billion and I am going to collect all of those back. I don’t care, all I want is for the rent to be paid.

“We will be publishing on Thursday for all those who are meant to pay their ground rent. They will be given the grace of two weeks to pay.

“Whoever doesn’t pay, I’ll revoke it and give it to whoever will pay so that the necessary services will be rendered. People want to live in a beautiful city but don’t want to pay their dues which is impossible.”
