All is now ready for the successful hosting of the mega South East summit on the economy and security of the Zone being sponsored by the South East Governor’s Forum (SEGF) in collaboration with the apex socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide.
Called the “South East Summit on Security and Economy”, it has the theme: “South East Beyond 2023, Time for a Reset”, the Summit holds in Owerri, the Imo State capital on 28th and 29th of September, 2023.
A press statement signed by Senator Chris Anyanwu, Chairperson, Summit Planning Committee said everything has been put in place to ensure a successful outing for the programme billed to hold at the landmark Events Centre (near Protea Hotel, New Owerri), beginning at 10 am on each day.
According to her, the gathering is a topmost level summit, bringing together all South East leaders in government/politics, Business, Academia, Media, civil society, traditional and religious leaders as well as women and youths of the five south eastern states.
Sen Chris enthusiastically said that Owerri (which is nicknamed the Eastern Heartland) looks forward receiving the people of the ethnic nationality.The former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria also assured participants at the Summit that there is no conflict or clash between the summit and the Igbo Day 2023 programme which is being organised by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo on the same day.
According to her, “both events are mutually complimentary and have the approval and support of all the South East Governors and the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
”The programmes of both events have been structured to accommodate the schedules of their Excellencies the South East Governors, the Leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and all individuals who have roles to play in both events” she assured.
The Chairperson further disclosed that, the hosts of the summit,; their Excellencies, the Governors of Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, and Enugu States are looking forward to invited guests’ attendance and participation in the activities of the Summit.
she said: “Remember that this is a serious search for understanding of the problem of insecurity and solutions to it. Secondly, the summit is also for the way forward for the South East on the economic front. So, come with your ideas and solutions ” she advised.
She assured the invitees that her Committee has put in place necessary arrangements for a robust and seamless summit that would birth a secure and functional region that will meet the yearnings and aspirations of its citizens both in Nigeria and in the diaspora.
