Reps’ member provides free medical treatment to constituents

The House of Representatives Member for Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, Mrs Regina Akume, said she is poised to rid her constituency of eye-related issues that limit their ability to carry out their daily activities to earn a living.

The federal lawmaker organised a medical outreach for 2,000 of her constituents on Monday in Wannune the headquarters of Tarka Local Government Area, Benue.

The former First Lady of Benue further disclosed that the people whose eyes would require surgery would be taken to Abuja for operation, stressing that their feeding and treatment would be free throughout the days they may spend in the hospital.

“My Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Hope Alive Foundation, has secured a medical outreach program for free testing and treatment of people with eye problems with Tulsi Chanrai Foundation Eye Hospital, Abuja.

The hospital brought the best optometrists from abroad to participate in this exercise meant to rid my constituents of the eye problems that limit their ability to carry out their daily activities to earn a living,” Akume said.

She assured her constituents that she would do her best to make their basic needs of life available to them.

“I have acquired a brand new high-tensioned industrial drilling machine worth over N200,000,000 with the capacity of drilling over 50,000 metres a day to enable me to minimize the perennial and chronic water shortage across the length and breadth of our constituency.

Aside from the statutory Legislative Aides, I have appointed about 38 Constituency Assistants with each council having at least one or two”.

According to Hon. Akume, “The idea is for them to serve as links between my office and the constituents for a better flow of information and the resultant action”.

Also, the Chairperson of the occasion, Mrs Mbawuese Tsuwa, commended her for the gesture, stressing that it was a clear demonstration of the love she had for her constituents

A beneficiary, Mr Teryima Dekela, commended the former first lady for bringing succour to them, lamenting that he had been battling with the issue of glaucoma for over four years but with the medical outreach he believed, he would regain his sight.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Helen Sende, also appreciated the federal lawmaker for her selfless service, lamenting that she had issues with her eyes for the past 10 years but respite had come at last through the help of their federal legislator.
