Achado takes Mbaivur/Mbasombo crisis to NIPCR

The National Assembly member representing Gwer East/Gwer West Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Arc. Asema Achado has called for the demarcation of the land between Mbaivur and Mbasombo in Gwer-East local government Area of Benue state to stop further crisis between the wearing communities.

Rt. Hon. Achado made the call when a delegation from the National Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution paid him a working visit at his National Assembly office in Abuja Wednesday.

Outlining the cost of the crisis between the two communities to the delegation, the lawmaker pointed out that, demarcation of the land between them has become inevitable, lamenting that the resulting crisis has exacerbated food shortage and insecurity, deepened poverty, wanton destruction, loss of lives and valuable properties.

He emphasized the need for urgent peaceful resolution and advocated for collaboration between all stakeholders involved toward a lasting solution to the crisis.

Responding, the leader of the delegation and Director of the Institute, Dr. Emmanuel Baba Mamman lauded the efforts of Achado in addressing the situation. He reaffirmed the commitment of the institute to promote peace and resolution of conflicts in Nigeria.

“The Institute is willing, available and ready to support the initiatives of the local government, state and Stakeholders in addressing the Mbaviur/Mbasombo land crisis in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State”, Dr. Mamman said.

The NIPCR Director who explained that the Institute operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program, solicited the cooperation of Rt. Hon. Achado towards convening a stakeholders’ meeting in the State aimed to addressing the situation.

Dr. Mamman then presented a book on peace and conflict resolution to the Gwer-East/Gwer-West representative.
