Creation of Civil Service Commission excites FCTA workers

By Daniel Tyokua

Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), have expressed satisfaction over the creation of FCT Civil Service Commission and Women Affairs Secretariat.

The staff on Monday came out in their numbers and marched straight to the entrance of the Minister of FCT office, singing songs of praise.

They said the recent approval by Tinubu for creation of the Commission and the Mandate Secretary, shows the commitment of Wike to improve the well-being of the workers.

Speaking on behalf of the workers, President, Joint Union Action Committee FCTA/FCDA/SDAs, Matilukuro Muyideen said the management and staff of the administration are excited that the issue which has been lingering since 2004 was addressed barely two months of Wike’s leadership as the Minister of FCT.

He pledged the total support of the staff of the Administration to the Minister, saying that the staff have never had it this good in years.

Responding, the Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike, said he was disappointed when he learnt that staff of the Administration, particularly those at Director cadre could not rise to the apex of their careers as is obtainable in other states.

While assuring that he will implement establishment of the Commission before next week, Wike promised the workers of improved welfare as he prepares to carry out more reforms in the civil service.

He said the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission will pave way for staff of the Administration to progress to the position of Permanent Secretary as against the current practice where Permanent Secretaries are deployed from other Federal Ministries or states to head the administrative structure of the FCT Administration.
