The new Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu has called on the The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), to support the Nigerian Police in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.

The police boss made the call yesterday, at an event organised by PCRC in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Disu noted that PCRC is most crucial in areas of crime fighting, saying that the group is the closet to the community.

The police commissioner told the group to “report to me or the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Administration anytime you have complaints against Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) or any senior officers in your jurisdiction and it will be comprehensively addressed”.

Earlier, Coordinator of PCRC, Donald Osifoh, said it was a familiarisation session with the  Commissioner of Police.

Osifoh further pledged their continuous support to the Police in crime prevention and reduction in the state.

He said in areas of giving very useful intelligence and information to the Police “we will aid crime prevention and reduction to as low as reasonably practical if not total eradication”.

Mr Osifoh recalled that the riot by Youth against the killing of a native in Woji community Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Monday 20, 2023 would have gone out of control if not for timely intervention of the paramount ruler who is also a member of PCRC that douse the tension.

He said the PCRC will continue to bridge the gap between the Police and the community.

The Rivers State Chairman of PCRC, Voke Emore who was also in attendance alongside other state executives, assured their support also in elimination of criminal elements in the state.
