Reps express displeasure over financial infractions in sale of government assets

The House of representatives Committee on Basic Education Examination Boards has interfaced with JAMB leadership over allegations of financial impropriety, particularly on the sale of some government assets.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the House Committee, Hon. Oboku Oforji, highlighted the importance of the committee with respect to the educational sector and it’s oversight on Agencies in the sector to ascertain their extent of compliance to relevant regulations and laws guiding revenue generation and remittances.

The representatives of the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Lucy Anom, Assistant director revenue and investment, provides insight into the remittances from JAMB since 2017.

Its table of remittances shows that N728 million was remitted in 2017, N5.2 billion in 2018, N3.6 billion in 2019, N3.8 billion in 2020, N3.5 billion in 2021, N3.1 billion in 2022

JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede while responding to the legislators over some discrepancies in figures, attributed this to the auto deduction policy of government. JAMB also denies selling any government asset at incredible rates.

Ishaq Oloyede insists the addition in fee is strictly for Computer Based Test Centres as a result of the hike in the price of diesel.
