Abia: Supreme Court verdict, an endorsement of good governance, purposeful leadership – Ogwuru

A chieftain of Labour Party (LP), Prince Tim Ogwuru has described last Monday’s Supreme Court judgement that affirmed the election of Dr. Alex Otti as the dully elected governor of Abia state as an endorsement of capacity, purposeful leadership and good governance.

Ogwuru who spoke exclusively with our reporter on the import of Supreme Court ruling, said “this is the first time, Abia state is having a governor”.

He lamented that the past 24 years of the state’s existence had only witnessed governors whose objective was to divert and pillage the people’s patrimony. He said that Otti has the buffer to resist the urge to primitive acquisition of wealth and abdicating his responsibility to political sycophants.

He said that the former Managing Director of Diamond bank has an intimidating achievement among all the formers governors in the state and has surpassed the records of all the other state governors elected with him on March 18, 2023 within just eight months in office.

He recalled that on resumption of office, Otti immediately flagged off the construction of nine roads in Aba, out of which five have already been completed before his 100 days in office.

He said that Otti has been keeping to his inaugural promise by paying the salaries of Abia State civil servants on or before the 28th day of every month.

He praised the governor for the boldness in kicking off a verification for Civil Servants in the state which has led to the discovery of 2,300 ghost workers, saving the sum of N220 million from the state’s wage bill, according to the Accountant General, Mrs Njum Onyemenam.

Ogwuru noted that in less than a year in office, Governor Alex Otti’s transformative leadership has already begun to pave the way for a new era of progress and development in Abia State. He said that his unwavering commitment to the well-being and prosperity of the state’s residents reflects a promising future under his stewardship.

While congratulating the governor for the affirmation of the apex court, Ogwuru said, “His Excellency, l congratulate you as the final arbiter have once again pronounced you as the authentic winner of the last general election. You are already focused on the right part, to get Abia State where it ought to be for the past twenty four years. He has not failed in his resolve to good governance to the people of Abia State.

He charged the governor not to be carried away by the euphoria of the government house. He challenged the ex-banker to bring more pro-people policies and strides that will stand him out from his predecessors.

He said, “As you have embarked on this journey, may you continue on the basis of accountability and responsibility in public office.”

He said that the governor has always stressed his readiness to “rebuild the Enyimba City, which he described as the “production, industrial and commercial hub of Abia State; the Southeast and Southern Nigeria.”
According to him, “the governor understands the enormous responsibilities resting on his shoulders and is determined to distance himself from the lackluster attitude of the past administration. Abia state will be happy under his watch because he will bring responsibility into governance”.
