Hunger: Imo Lawmakers  advances plan for improved food productivity

As strategic measures to address the perennial high cost of Food and other commodities, lawmakers at the Imo State House of Assembly have passed a motion, urging Governor Hope Uzodimma to direct the Ministry of Education to ensure Demonstration Farms are reinstated in various primary and secondary schools in the state.

They also urged the governor to direct the Ministry of Agriculture to immediately interface with local farmers across the state, and seek ways to improve on farming, and providing necessary logistics such as grant, seedlings, manure, etc, as ways of addressing the present socioeconomic difficulties.

Sponsored by the member representing Nkwerre State Constituency, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu the motion urged Uzodimma to reactivate tge Imo Marketing Board to ensure the storage and distribution of commodities in order to increase food reserve and ultimately alleviate the sufferings of the people .

They also urged the governor to direct the relevant agencies and ministries to look into the  state’s rubber plantations, in order to ensure they are working optimally to increase production, to boost employment opportunities, and generate more revenue as well as facilitate the revamping of Avutu Modern Poultry in Obowo.
