NUJ names Gov. Bago Grand Patron, eulogises his developmental strides

The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has bestowed on the Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, honour as Grand Petron of the NUJ.

National President of the NUJ, Chief (Dr) Chris Isiguzo, who bestowed the honour on the Governor said the union decided to confer him the honour in recognition of his giant strides since he assumed office last May. 

Isiguzo who stressed the symbolism of the award, noted that the award was not just for photo session, but to tap on the consciousness of the noble ideals that define the profession, as well as appreciate the governor’s achievements in the short period.

He described the governor as one who not only promotes press freedom, access to information but who believes in the vitality of informed an populace.

He ommended the visionary leadership of the governor as envisioned in education, healthcare, infrastructure and agriculture, stressing that the governor has demonstrated that he is a beacon of hope for upcoming generation. 

Isiguzo noted that the investiture portrays Gov. Bago’s dexterity and deep relationship with journalists, as examplified by his profound sense of duty and service to humanity.

“As we honour you today as the Grand Patron of our union, it is our hope that this will showcase a legacy of mutual relationship and shared values. 

“I also want to applaud you for your efforts to ensure there is peace and security in every part of Niger State, inspite of multifarious challenges.

“Even the blind can see the laudable strides you have put on ground since you took oath of office; it is not in any doubt that you have revolutionalised governance in Niger state with several dividends positively affecting the people and their general well-being,” he said.

The Governor who stated that President Bola Tinubu will be in the state next week to inaugurate the Agro Processing Zone near the Minna Airport, noted that it is the fist of its kindin the country.

The governor urged journalistsacross the country to adopt deliberate policy to promote the unity and progress of Nigeria.

He called on the media to uphold the best of ethics and professionalism to change the narrative where members of the public now seem to rely more on social than the traditional media. 

The state government had procured 2,000 tractors and other agro-processing equipments, yo be set up to process and add value to agro produce in the state.
