Projects: Govt should get commendation not condemnation – Wike

By Daniel Tyokua

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has called on citizens to commend government where there is an improvement in projects execution and not condemnations.

He stated this after inspection of some projects in the territory on Wednesday.

Wike said claims by some persons that criminals have taken over the Federal Capital Territory and street lights no longer work was wrong.

“People should be able to commend government where there’s improvement. I did say here that we are not going to concentrate on roads alone, we said, we are going to dwell on the health sector, education and even agriculture.

“Under education, some weeks ago we did commence the rehabilitation of 19 schools and I did say 21 schools will also be renovated under the 2024 budget. These people know all these. It’s just that some Nigerians find it difficult to accept the realities on ground that things have changed. When you do that you encourage those who are working will give it their best.

“Roads are being completed and it’s going to be part of the roads we believe will be commissioned in May.

“We have spotted the areas we think the contractor should make some adjustments, but over all it’s being completed and we believe in the next one or two weeks, the street lights will be on.

“We also went to Guzape Lot II where stood on the rock and that too will also be completed before May ending that too will be handed over to us. We went to the Diplomatic area which is not part of what will be commissioned in May, but we went to see what they are doing there.

“Like they said in the next 1 and half year, they project should be completed if funds are released. I believe by the grace of God we will have the funds. Over all we are doing well and I commend all of you for the support and residents of the Abuja who have been making some sacrifice since we diverted traffic.

“We also went to the areas where Julius Berger are working and they assured us that all the roads they are resurfacing will be completed will be completed before May 29, even though we are Mr President will not be commissioning them, but we want people to know that Abuja is wearing a new look”.
