It’s shameful Nigeria still generates only 4.5GW of electricity — Tinubu

 Describing Nigeria’s current 4.5GW (4,500 megawatts) electricity output as shameful, President, Bola Tinubu has announced an initiative to boost the national grid supply to 6GW in six months.

The President made the announcement while inaugurating the 31-member Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC), at the the State House Abuja.

The President, who chairs the Council said “the newly introduced measures are to stabilise the economy, enhance job creation, and foster economic security.”

According to him: “We have the challenge of energy security in Nigeria. We need to work together to improve our oil and gas sector, and we must also increase electricity generation and distribution throughout the country.

”We are determined to do that with your cooperation, collaboration, and recommendations. As a nation, it is so shameful that we are still generating 4.5GW of electricity.”

The Nigerian leader also announced an increase in the nation’s oil production to 2 million barrels per day within the next 12 months, insisting on the removal of barriers to entry for investments in the sector to enhance competitiveness.

He further underscored the need for innovative solutions to the country’s economic challenges, while noting the importance of public-private partnerships in driving economic reforms.
