By Mercy Aikoye

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has advised Nigerian youths to pay attention to details and not be carried away by the euphoria of modern technology.

The Speaker made this statement during an interactive session with youths participating in the 2024 Legislative Mentorship Initiative.

He emphasized that success can only be achieved by paying attention to details, and lamented that despite the abundance of information on the internet, many youths fail to do so.

The Speaker attributed the success recorded under his leadership to his principles of trust, accountability, and transparency, which have been the hallmark of the 10th House.

He noted that managing the House with the highest number of political parties has been amicable, with a high sense of cohesion, respect, and accommodation for divergent views.

The Speaker credited his ability to maintain trust and transparency for holding the House together, stating that members believe in his transparency and accountability.

Regarding plans for persons with disabilities, the Speaker assured that the disability law signed by former President Buhari is being implemented, and the 10th House has high regards for persons with disabilities.

The Speaker also committed to ensuring equitable representation for women in the political space, either through elections or appointments, and stated that the ongoing constitution review will address discrimination against women.

Finally, the Speaker expressed his intention to increase the number of youths benefiting from the Legislative Mentorship Initiative and introduce an internship program for graduates, as well as engage Nigerian youths twice a year. ‎
