By Daniel Tyokua

The Directorate of Road Transport Services (DRTS), Popularly known as VIO has warned motorists against speeding, violation of traffic rules and other offences in the Federal Capital Territory.

Director of the service, Dr Abdulateef Bello in a statement on Friday, said there are ongoing road construction in the territory, which he urged residents, especially motorists to heed to the traffic rules.

He said some road crashes in the territory are caused by speeding, drunkenness and other vices common during celebrations due to influx of visitors from other states.

Bello told visitors to drive with extreme caution as they might not be familiar with Abuja roads.

The statement reads, “There are no excuses for driving with expired drivers licence or none at all, overloading and use of rickety vehicles that could be harmful to passengers.

“Visitors should be mindful of how they drive within the Federal Capital Territory, there are new roads and ongoing road construction”.

Bello added that operatives of the directorate had commenced road surveillance within the territory to ensure safety compliance by motorists.
