Imo Police arrest trader for physically assaulting minor-house help

Lady Edith Nwachukwu, a 35 year old Owerri based trader has been arrested by Imo State Police Command for physically assaulting her 13 year old minor house help, Miss Kelechi Ejieke.

The suspect was arrested within the week by the operatives of the Owerri Urban Divisional Police headquarters after the minor was rescued from her at the popular Relief Market in Owerri, the state capital while she has already beating her to stupor and inflicted serious body injuries on her including inserting harsh grinded pepper inside her private part.

The woman who is now detained by the police accused the minor of stealing her money, an activist journalist, Chidiebube Okeoma, who was at the police station disclosed this to news men on Thursday including The Authority.

According to Okeoma, who is the Founder of Stand for Humanity Foundation, himself and some traders based on the abuse alerted the police who came and picked the minor and arrested the suspect.

Okeoma said that some traders forcefully rescued the child from the lady trader who had inflicted so much devilish injuries on the little girl and ordered more ten pieces of cane to further unleashed on the girl.

Okeoma said ” men of the Owerri Urban Divisional Police headquarters have arrested the woman and the minor rescued. The child was taken to a hospital in Owerri as the injury was severe. The suspect have been detained.

“When I was informed, I quickly alerted the DPO. Thanks to some traders who rescued the minor and also involved the police. At the police station, the woman who latter pleaded for mercy said her house help stole her money, an allegation the girl firmly denied. She said she was angry that was why she battered the minor. The girl said she is from Amaeke Ada in Abia state.

“Our organization, Stand For Humanity Foundation, is interested in this matter and we will ensure justice is done to further serve as a deterrent to people who dehumanize children in their custody. Child battering is a crime. We will continue to push until people stop it.”

The spokesperson for the Police in the state, Henry Okoye, said that the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had zero tolerance for child battering and all forms of crimes.

Okoye, disclosed that investigation into the matter had commenced by the police in the State.
