Our stance on scavengers in FCT remain – Police

By Daniel Tyokua

The FCT commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu has said the ban on scavenging in the Federal Capital City is still enforced and must be obeyed.

He stated this while briefing journalists after FCT Security meeting chaired by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Friday.

Disu had early 2025, declared ban on scavenging in Federal Capital City and restricted activities of scavengers to only dumpsites at the suburbs.

He also said profiling of the scavengers was undergoing a process for proper documentation.

On tightening security in the territory, the CP explained that security operatives and other states bordering the FCT will be involved in joint meetings for more collaboration and operations.

He said the synergy would give them an outlook on how to keep safeguarding the states

Disu revealed that the committee agreed that the activities of the task force comprising of all the six agencies will continue in line with the different tasks assigned to them.

“We finally decided that we are going to involve security operatives and other states bordering the Federal Capital Territory in joint meetings, joint collaboration, and joint operations, so that we can jointly have a outlook on how to police our various states. We do not want incidents of a particular state embarking on this clearance operation and the insurgents will be moving towards other areas of the nation”

Asked on activities of touts in strategic locations in Abuja, the CP said plans are underway to address the situation, saying police numbers are in the public domain for people to report any harassment.
