Wild jubilation at Kakuri Area of Kaduna State has erupted at the venue of commissioning of the largest Pharma-Grade Warehouse in the State’s history.
Governor Uba Sani has also restated his administration’s commitment to further boosting Kaduna State’s healthcare system.
The commissioned and newly-upgraded pharma-grade warehouse is largest among 22 states involved in the initiative. The facility is set to enhance drug storage, accessibility, and distribution, reinforcing the state’s leading status in healthcare delivery.
The governor emphasized that good healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. He noted that Kaduna has continued to set the pace in primary healthcare services, earning recognition from the PHC Leadership Challenge, which ranked the state as the best in the North-West zone.
The newly commissioned warehouse in Makera features a 1,600-square-meter storage area, two cold rooms, 13 administrative offices, and laboratories for quality control, chemistry, and microbiology. The governor said the facility is a crucial component of the state’s commitment to ensuring the efficient storage, distribution, and availability of essential medicines and public health products.
Governor Sani revealed that Kaduna was among the first states to pay the 15% counterpart funding for the warehouse upgrade, underscoring his administration’s proactive approach to healthcare development. He also pledged to renovate and upgrade warehouses in Zones 1 and 3 to the same pharma-grade standard, ensuring that quality medications are accessible across the state.
He further noted that Kaduna’s strides in healthcare have earned the state 10 national and international awards, including the prestigious Excellence Award from the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA). Kaduna and Nasarawa are the only two states in Nigeria to achieve “maturing ready-to-integrate” status, a crucial step toward integrating public health products and essential medicines in line with the Federal Ministry of Health’s mandate.
The governor expressed appreciation to development partners, including the Global Fund, UNICEF, Fidson Healthcare, and Emzor Group, for their contributions to the project.
He acknowledged Fidson Healthcare’s role in organizing the storage system and Emzor Group’s provision of insurance coverage for the facility.
“This warehouse is a symbol of our dedication to ensuring the continuous availability, efficient storage, and distribution of essential health commodities. By strengthening our supply chain, we are making sure that life-saving medications reach every corner of our state,” the governor stated.
