Concerned members of the Licenced Electrical Contractors’ Association of Nigeria (LECAN) have called on those parading themselve as leaders to obey court judgement and stop disobeying a recent court verdict that barred them.
Briefing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, former chairman of the Association in FCT, Chief Ofodum Vitus, said a Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Bwari had on February 24, asked those posing as the executive members of LECAN before the election to desist from the act.
He said sometime in 2022, the Association was ready to elect the national executive but some members disrupt the process for their reasons best known to them.
According to him, the act was against laws guiding the Association, saying the body is expected to be governed by its laws.
Vitus who is also the coordinator of North Central zone of the union, said despite the ruling, some persons pretend to be officials and hold illegal meetings.
He cited a two -day workshop held in Yola, the Adamawa state capital with withdrawals from the bank account as an example of violation of the judgement.
Vitus who is also the Managing Director / Chief executive officer, Vitex Engineering Company Limited, described the conduct of the people as unconstitutional.
He said the Association was an aged body and should not be destroyed because of selfish reasons.
“Despite the Federal High court ruling on February 24, this year some group of persons are disobeying the ruling. This shows disrespect for the judiciary.
“The FCT High court ruled that the national executives occupying any office is declared null and void.
“That they are immediately restrained from accessing the bank account of the Association. That the Association should with immediate effect conduct national election in line with the election procedure of the constitution making sure that proper agenda with quota representation of delegate and notices to be followed”
