The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) said a total of 10 people have been confirmed death as a truck overturned and exploded at Karu bridge on the ever busy Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi Expressway.
Recall that the FCT Police Command, in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, had confirmed that six persons died in the accident, while 14 vehicles were burnt.
The FEMD boss, however, disclosed that of the six, four were burnt beyond recognition, adding that two of the other rescued victims died on Thursday morning, bringing the total number of dead victims to eight.
In a statement issued by Nkechi Isah on Thursday, said the Head Forecasting Response and Mitigation of FEMD,Mr Mark Nyam, said eight bodies were deposited at the Karu Hospital Morgue ,one body at the Asokoro Distinct Hospital Morgue while another body was deposited at the National Hospital.
He informed that over 30 persons suffered various degrees of injuries.
According to the statement, some of the victims have been referred to Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre,Keffi and Cedercrest Hospital Abuja for proper care.
It also said the acting Director General of FEMD, Abdulrahman Mohammed appealed to motorists to observe traffic rules and regulations.
He cautioned against reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and poor maintenance of vehicles.
Abdulrahman appealed to FCT residents to always use the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency.
