Former Registrar and Chief Executive of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Professor Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye, has denied reports alleging he was dismissed by President Bola Tinubu, clarifying that he stepped down of his own accord in August 2024 after completing an eight-year tenure.
In a statement addressing what he described as a misleading publication, Ajiboye dismissed the claim of a presidential dismissal as both unfounded and misinformed, stressing that it overlooked due processes within the Federal Ministry of Education.
“My attention has just been drawn to a sinister publication… talking about President Tinubu sacking Prof Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye as Registrar/CE of TRCN.
“While one can easily dismiss the publication as a hatchet job from an ignorant writer… it is imperative to set the record straight for future purposes,” he said.
Ajiboye stated that he officially resigned from his position effective August 30, 2024, and subsequently resumed his academic role at the University of Ibadan, his previous place of employment, on September 1, 2024.
Following his departure, he explained, the most senior director at TRCN assumed leadership of the Council until President Tinubu appointed a new Registrar and Chief Executive, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo.
“The letter of acknowledgement of the handing-over by the Federal Ministry of Education attested to the high-level performance and unparalleled achievements recorded by TRCN under my leadership,” he added.
He described the narrative of a forced exit as “very strange and uncalled for,” warning the media organization responsible for the publication to withdraw the report or face legal consequences.
Ajiboye held the position for two terms, during which he is recognized for advancing the professional standards of teaching in Nigeria and elevating the TRCN’s role in educational reforms across the continent.
