An heavy duty truck Conveying Beer in Abakaliki has stumbled into the Flyover construction pit and shattered most of the bottles while driver narrowly escaped from the incident.
The lorry driver who identified himself as Mr Benjamin Joseph escaped death by whisker at the ongoing vanco-junction flyover in Abakaliki.
The vehicle fully loaded with small stout beer fell into a pit at the site of the ongoing Vanco-junction flyover on Wednesday.
Addressing newsmen, the Ebonyi state Commissioner for Work, Engr Lebechi Mbam expressed dismay over the continuous flaunt on the government directive and warned motorists to desist from the use of the ongoing construction Vanco flyover site inorder to avert impending danger of loss of life.
The Commissioner for Work, Engr. Mbam made his feelings known when he visited accident scene where lorry with number plate Enugu FST978ST carrying beer fell into one of the construction pit, describing the incident as unfortunate and crass ineptitude from the driver who despite alternative routes to his offloading store took the barricaded site where the heavy truck slipped off its track into the pit.
Speaking with the goods owner, Mr Ugochukwu Lazarus who is the director of Unique Laz And Sera for life, appreciated the state Commissioner for Work for his intervention in ensuring that both the goods and lorry are rescued.
Also, the lorry driver, Mr Benjamin Joseph who said that he was coming to Abakaliki for the first time lamented over the enormous loss on both the goods and the lorry and appealed for support from concerned individuals to enable him come out of the trouble.

He praised God for saving the driver’s life pleading that workers at the site are not relenting to ensure that the work is completed at the right time,hence, urged motorists in the state to continue supporting governor Nwifuru’s led-government by remaining law abiding especially by keeping off from the site at the momentarily period.
“We thank God that no life was lost, but it was quite unfortunate that motorists have continued to flaunt the government directive banning vehicle movement in the construction site.
“I have given directive to those in the site to help save the goods and that’s what is going on as you can see.”he asserted.
