Senate President Godswill Akpabio has commended the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for his exceptional leadership and transformative impact on the Niger Delta region. In a press statement by the Special Assistant to President of the Senate on Media/Communication, Anietie Ekong on Wednesday, Akpabio made the commendation at the 50th birthday celebration and unveiling of two books authored by Dr. Ogbuku in Abuja.
The senate President praised Ogbuku for turning around the fortunes of the Niger Delta region, saying, “The Managing Director has done a very difficult job well. It is not easy to manage the Niger Delta. It is not easy to manage the NDDC,” hailed, saying that with Ogbuku’s leadership, the NDDC has undergone a significant transformation.
He assured Dr. Ogbuku that the legacies he would leave behind as Managing Director would outlive him, stating: “The MD will not be remembered for this celebration but the legacies he would leave behind for the good people of the Niger Delta.” He congratulated the NDDC Board, describing it as the most peaceful board so far.
Godswill Obot Akpabio recounted his experience as a Governor, highlighting the poor state of infrastructure he inherited from the NDDC. He cited the example of a road project that was awarded to a contractor for 11 years without any progress, which he later dualized with four bridges.
Two books authored by Dr. Ogbuku, “Rethinking the Niger Delta” and “Strategies and Imperatives for Developing the Niger Delta,” were unveiled during the celebration. The celebrant, Dr. Ogbuku, recounted his difficult upbringing and thanked everyone who had supported him in his leadership career.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, described Dr. Ogbuku’s 50th birthday as a celebration of a life of service, scholarship, and achievement.
