NYCN leadership urges youths to support governance, national security

By Euclid Myke, Abuja

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on Nigerian youths to align themselves with established governance structures and actively support national security initiatives at all levels of government.

The call was made during a thanksgiving service on Sunday at the Divine Hand of God Prophetic Ministries in Abuja. In a statement issued Monday by the NYCN National Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Onileowo, the Council’s President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, and National Secretary, Comrade Gara Nongha, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to fostering youth empowerment, employment creation, and agricultural development as the foundation for national growth.

Speaking after the service, Amb. Sukubo stressed that Nigerian youths must recognize their role as partners in national development. He said: “I am committed to ensuring youth inclusiveness and development in key areas such as employment, agriculture, empowerment, and vocational skills training. These will be my main focus both in government and the private sector, as well as within our youth constituency.”

He explained that his second tenure would be anchored on four priorities—youth empowerment, employment generation, agriculture, and vocational skills training. According to him, the objective is to mobilize millions of youths into productive engagement across these sectors.

Sukubo further advised youths to work hand in hand with government institutions at all levels, saying: “My advice to all Nigerian youths, across every level of government, is to align their activities with the structures of governance. At the federal level, youths should work with the federal government; at the state level, with their state governments; and at the local level, with their local government chairmen. By doing so, they can contribute meaningfully, especially by supporting security agencies to reduce crime in their communities.”

On his part, NYCN National Secretary, Comrade Nongha, said the thanksgiving service symbolized the Council’s recognition of God’s role in national progress. “Today marks the beginning of the National Youth Council’s second tenure, and we have chosen to start it in the name of God. We pray that He guides and blesses us throughout this journey,” he stated.

Nongha emphasized inclusivity and fairness as guiding principles of the new leadership. “This gesture symbolizes unity and fairness among the two major faiths in Nigeria. The leadership of the Council is committed to ensuring inclusivity, fairness, and justice in all its activities, regardless of religion or background. Beyond fairness, our focus is on implementing impactful programmes for Nigerian youths. We want our actions to speak louder than promises.”

He urged young Nigerians to remain steadfast, law-abiding, and supportive of the government of the day, stressing that: “The future of our nation depends on the choices we make today.”
