Abuja, Nigeria – The Senate has confirmed Hon. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), along with 37 commissioners representing the 36 states and the FCT.

The confirmation followed a thorough screening process, with Omidiran and the commissioners deemed fit for their roles. Senator Allwell Heacho Onyesoh, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, presented the report, stating that all nominees submitted required documents and faced no criminal petitions.

Omidiran, a two-term federal lawmaker, is expected to bring discipline, transparency, and reform to the FCC. Her appointment has been welcomed as a shift towards revitalizing the commission, with a focus on equity and national development.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio charged the appointees to approach their duties with patriotism, saying, “Go and serve in the interest of the nation.”

The confirmed commissioners include Peter Ogbonna Eze (Enugu), AbdulWasiu Kayode Bawa-Allah (Lagos), and Mohammed Musa (FCC Secretary), among others.
