Nagatecho ’98 alumni group offers free medical services to school community

The Nagatecho 98 Heritage Foundation, an NGO formed by the 1998 graduating class of Ebira Community Secondary School, has partnered with Serenity Healthcare Limited to provide free medical services to students and staff of their alma mater in Ogaminana.

The outreach covered a wide range of beneficiaries, including students, teachers, retirees and residents within the surrounding community. It was widely commended for meeting essential health needs at a time when many face significant hurdles in accessing proper medical care.

Retired Director of Education and former principal of the school, Mr. Bernard Ehusani, described the initiative as a significant relief for community members. He noted that recipients were offered consultations, health awareness sessions on hypertension and diabetes, diagnostic screenings and vital medications — all without charge.

He expressed appreciation to the organisers for dedicating their resources and professional skills to enhance community wellbeing.

A retiree of the National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO), Mrs. Sefinat Omeiza, also lauded the effort, stating that the outreach team delivered respectful and compassionate care, a level of attention she said is seldom encountered in regular hospitals. She stressed that participants paid no fees, applauding the organisers for covering the entire cost of the intervention.

Representing the Nagatecho 98 Heritage Foundation, Medical Team Lead Pharm. Ohida Aminu explained that the foundation — comprising the school’s 1998 alumni — was created to support both its members and the broader community. He disclosed that, like other projects undertaken by the foundation, the medical outreach was financed exclusively through member contributions, with no external funding. Aminu urged other alumni bodies to take inspiration from the 1998 set’s commitment.

The immediate past President General of the school’s old students association, Sani Yakubu Opene, praised the programme as another notable achievement by the group. He recalled the set’s previous donation of quality textbooks during the school’s 50th anniversary.

The initiative offered screenings, health education and free medication to students, staff and community residents, further cementing the foundation’s reputation for meaningful community-focused service.
