The Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) Zamfara chapter, on Saturday, sensitised some representatives of farmers associations in the state, on the utilisation of agricultural insurance.
the sensitization was organised in collaboration with a political organisation in the state known as ‘Yazeed Project’.
It had the theme: “Securing the Future of Agriculture through Partnership and Protection”
The Manager of the NAIC office in Zamfara, Mr Auwal Haruna, said that the sensitization programme, aimed at shifting farmers from traditional methods, to insured and resilient operations, offering a safety net against inherent agricultural risks.
Haruna, described the partnership with Yazeed Project, as a welcome development, considering the impact which enhances the capacity of farmers, and creates awareness on how to improve food production.
According to him, one of the mandates of the NAIC is to sensitise farmers on subsidies, risk protection, against flood and diseases, as well as timely claims to ensure business continuity and food security.
“The main objective of this program is to educate farmers on products, claims, and the importance of insuring against various risks to stabilise income and attract credit.
“We encouraged farmers to insure against natural disasters such as floods, droughts, pests, and diseases, to prevent total losses.
“Agricultural insurance helps farmers receive payouts for losses, keeping them in business year-round and enabling investments in modern practices.
“We are very grateful for this program especially the support from the Yazeed project to have this program.
“This is the first of its kind since the creation of this office in Zamfara over 30 years.
“We are ever ready to collaborate with farmers and farmers associations, to reach millions of farmers in the state and for them to be informed more about the activities of NAIC,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator of Yazeed Project, Mr Abubakar Umar, said that the partnership was aimed at enhancing farmers’ awareness on food security, economic resilience.and access to credit.
Umar said that the sensitization programme also aims to complement the efforts of the present administration of NAIC, under its Managing Director, Hon Yazeed Danfulani.
The event was attended by representatives from various farmers associations in the state.
Participants at the event includes: representatives of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA) and Women’s Agriculture Empowerment Network (WAGEN).
Other farmers’ association present at the programme include: Providence Crops and Livestock Farmers Association (PCLFA), Farming sustainable Initiative (FASI), National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN), among others.
