In a sustained clampdown on banditry and cattle rustling across the state, operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command, have foiled an attempted cattle rustling and recovered six cows in Bakal area of Bauchi metropolis.
A police statement from SP Nafiu Habib, said that the command received credible community-led intelligence that around 1230 hours of 23rd June 2026, unidentified cattle rustlers were sighted fleeing with six cattle toward the riverbank in Bakal area.
It said, acting on the report, a team of operatives in conjunction with a group of vigilante, chased the fleeing suspects, intercepted them, and successfully recovered the cows.
“The livestock have been moved to police custody for identification and possible tracing of the rightful owners.
“Furthermore, efforts are on going to apprehend the fleeing rustlers,” the statement said.
The CP, Mr Sani-Omolori Aliyu, who ordered a discrete investigation and directed that the culprits be tracked down, commended the gallantry and resilience of the operatives for their prompt response in protecting the lives and property of citizens.
He also urged members of the public to remain security conscious and continue to collaborate with the police by providing timely and actionable information.
