Taraba State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bodiya Buma, has described the approval of the ongoing recruitment of 550 health personnel into secondary healthcare facilities by the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas as a step in the right direction.

Speaking with our correspondent in Jalingo on the development, Dr. Bodiya reiterated Governor Kefas’ commitment to revamping and revitalising the health sector in the state, stating, “saying I’m proud of His Excellency’s reforms in the health sector”.

The commissioner assured applicants that the recruitment exercise would be conducted transparently and strictly on merit.

According to him, the Kefas administration remains committed to strengthening healthcare delivery across the state, stressing that the recruitment process would be based on merit, competence and professionalism, while rejecting favouritism, personal connections and undue influence.

Dr. Bodiya also commended Governor Kefas for prioritising the renovation of healthcare facilities and the provision of modern medical equipment, alongside several other interventions in the health sector. He called on residents of the state to continue supporting the administration in its efforts to achieve its developmental objectives.

He further revealed that the recruitment exercise covers all 16 local government areas of the state, with health professionals drawn from across the councils and invited to participate in the process aimed at addressing manpower shortages in the sector.

Also speaking with our correspondent, the Executive Secretary of the Health Services Management Board, Dr. Garba Danjuma, disclosed that the state government had approved the recruitment and interview process for 480 health workers to be deployed across health facilities in the state.

He explained that the exercise was primarily aimed at addressing the shortage of healthcare personnel, particularly nurses and midwives.

According to the Executive Secretary, the ongoing exercise at the Health Services Management Board in Jalingo is designed to ensure that professionalism and competency-based assessment remain the key criteria for the selection of qualified candidates.

Dr. Garba further disclosed that more than 4,000 applicants applied for the positions, but the state government approved the employment of 550 health workers. He noted that the recruitment drive is targeted at engaging qualified nurses and midwives to bridge existing manpower gaps in health facilities across the state.
