Ahead of 2027 political dispensation, political gimmicks and intrinsics are already playing out in Imo State, just as last weekend the political stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), in Orlu senatorial zone threw in their weight behind, Governor Hope Uzodimma, as they bought the Senatorial Expression of Interest and Nomination forms urging him to contest the Imo West Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
The persuasion is coming even as Uzodimma still have over a year and eight months to complete his Shared Prosperity tenure as an executive governor of Imo State.
The Authority in Owerri was told by Hon. Charles Olumba, a chieftain of APC and one of the frontline supporters and financier of get Governor Hope Uzodimma Back To The Senate Mandate Group that the endorsement came after series of consultations involving party leaders, grassroots mobilisers, and key political figures across the twelve local government areas in the zone.
According to Olumba, “in a decisive bold step, the group has already procured both the expression of interest and nomination forms on behalf of the governor and for him to take over the Senatorial seat in the forthcoming political dispensation ahead of the ending of his second tenure as Imo State Governor”.
He fervently describe the political move as a strategic and collective decision aimed at sustaining developmental strides in the zone while consolidating and strengthening the Senatorial zone’s voice at the National Assembly.
The astute politician noted that the call transcends personal ambition, stressing that it reflects the shared interests of the zone.
He also maintained that the governor’s track record in governance and political experiences make him well-suited to represent Imo West at the Senate, even though he has represented the senatorial zone in the Senate in the 6th & 7th Senate before venturing into the governorship of the State.
However, it’s pertinent to inform that the political development has since triggered mobilisation across the zone, with youth organisations, ward structures, and party faithful aligning in support of the proposed senatorial bid.
Political pundit and analysts, Hon. Fidel Onyeneke told The Authority Newspaper in Owerri on Sunday that the early show of unity among APC stakeholders in Orlu Zone is significant, especially as political realignments begin ahead of 2027.
Onyeneke further observed that the political action is geared towards positioning the zone for greater influence in the State’s evolving political landscape.
Even though, Governor Uzodimma has not issued any statement in support or condemnation, but his recent political body language seems to suggest that he is on the know of the strong unmistakable message from the party leaders in Orlu, which is a coordinated push for him to take a bold leap again on the Senatorial race.
