The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rejected allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) linking it to a reported shooting incident involving ADC members in Edo State, describing the opposition party as “its own nemesis.”
In a press statement issued Thursday in Abuja and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said the ADC was “crippling itself even before it has time to stand on its feet,” accusing the party of making baseless claims without regard for due process.
The response follows Wednesday’s statement by the ADC in which it blamed the ruling party for the shooting incident in Edo State. The APC dismissed the accusation as “delusional” and “senseless,” criticizing the ADC for drawing conclusions before the completion of any law enforcement investigation.
“By its baseless conclusion, the party has declared itself to be the accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge in its own cause,” the APC said.
The ruling party further faulted the ADC for referring to what it described as ‘acts of terrorism by the ruling APC’ against its members, calling the characterization reckless and insensitive to the country’s ongoing security challenges.
According to the APC, such statements undermine the sacrifices of security personnel engaged in efforts to combat terrorism and maintain national stability.
While distancing itself from the incident, the APC condemned political violence in all forms and called for a thorough and expeditious investigation by the police and other relevant authorities to bring perpetrators to justice.
“Violence of any kind in our political space is unacceptable and must be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians,” the statement read.
The party, however, urged investigators to scrutinize the ADC’s internal dynamics, alleging that the opposition party has been plagued by factional disputes and leadership struggles. It suggested that law enforcement should examine reports of internal clashes among ADC leaders over control of party structures.
The APC also maintained that it had no involvement in the Edo incident, stating that it remains focused on consolidating recent electoral gains.
