Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has forwarded three commissioner nominees to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for confirmation, barely a day after the resignation of the Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar.

The nominees: Sali Idris (Maiha LGA), Muhammed Suleiman (Mubi North LGA) and Chubado Mohammed (Jada LGA) were conveyed in separate letters read on Tuesday by the Speaker, Bathiya Wesley.

Wesley directed the Clerk of the House to notify the nominees to appear before lawmakers with their curriculum vitae on March 9, 2026, for screening.

The development follows the public resignation of Adamu Atiku Abubakar, who said in his letter that he was leaving the cabinet “after deep reflection and careful consideration,” without stating specific reasons.

However, political observers had linked his exit to his reported opposition to Governor Fintiri’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, a move most commissioners reportedly supported.

Last Friday, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, was among three commissioners said to have declined to defect alongside the governor. The others were Commissioner for Livestock Development, Tijjani Maksha, and Commissioner for Justice, Afraimu Jingi.

While only Adamu Atiku Abubakar has formally resigned, the nomination of three replacements has fuelled speculation that the remaining two commissioners may also have exited the administration.
