The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Monday, led a delegation of senators on a condolence visit to the family of the late Senator Barinada Mpigi, who passed away last week in a London hospital.
Senator Mpigi represented the people of Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
During the visit, Akpabio described Senator Mpigi’s death as a painful loss to the National Assembly and the nation at large, expressing deep sorrow and sadness over the passing of the former lawmaker. He highlighted Mpigi’s dedication to public service, noting that he contributed meaningfully to legislative development and nation-building.
“Senator Mpigi was a dedicated public servant, who contributed meaningfully to legislative development and nation-building. He was committed to the welfare of his constituents and his passion for service would not be forgotten”, Akpabio said.
The Senate President further stated that Mpigi’s legacy would continue to inspire younger generations of leaders, and urged the bereaved family to take solace in the impactful life their father lived. He assured them that the Senate and the entire National Assembly share in their grief.
