The Naija Drone Soccer League (NDSL) has unveiled Nigeria’s first competitive drone soccer league for senior secondary school students, in a move aimed at combining sports, technology, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education to prepare young people for future careers in aviation, engineering, and robotics.
The initiative, officially launched by the league, is designed to introduce students to drone technology through structured competitions that blend e-sports with practical learning in aerospace, aeronautics, aviation technology, engineering, teamwork, and strategic thinking.
According to a statement issued by the organisers, the platform seeks to transform classrooms into innovation hubs while creating a national sporting ecosystem centered on emerging technologies.
“Drone-soccer is more than a sport—it is a training ground for the future,” the league stated. “Through this league, we are building a generation of innovators who will shape Nigeria’s future in technology, aviation, and engineering.”
The organisers said the programme would provide participating schools with drone soccer kits, technical support, and training, while also creating opportunities for students to compete in regional qualifiers leading to a national championship.
The league will also introduce teacher training and school capacity-building programmes aimed at strengthening STEM education across participating institutions.
NDSL noted that the initiative comes at a time when economies across the world are becoming increasingly technology-driven, stressing that Nigerian students need practical exposure to emerging innovations in order to remain globally competitive.
The organisation has called on senior secondary schools across the country to register for the inaugural season, adding that early participants would benefit from priority onboarding, technical support, and national visibility.
It also appealed to corporate organisations, development partners, and other stakeholders to support the initiative through partnerships and sponsorships.
According to the league, such collaborations would contribute to youth empowerment, the advancement of STEM education, and the growth of Nigeria’s drone and robotics ecosystem, while also providing brand visibility and social impact opportunities for partners.
The league said it aims to become a major platform for discovering and nurturing future engineers, innovators, and technology leaders in Nigeria.
