The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, on Wednesday joined children across the country to commemorate the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, reaffirming the Federal Government’s resolve to ensure every Nigerian child has access to inclusive and quality education.

As part of activities marking the occasion, the Minister hosted young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe, at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah, the event brought together children from diverse schools and backgrounds nationwide in a symbolic interaction designed to promote the voices of children and reinforce national dedication to child development and inclusive learning.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Alausa described the annual celebration as an important reminder of the collective responsibility to secure the future of Nigerian children through sustained investments in education, wellbeing, and opportunity.

“Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged, and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance,” he said.

The Minister also praised Dera Osadebe for her growing role in advocating awareness, inclusion, and compassion for children living with disabilities and autism in Nigeria.

“Dera’s courage and passion reflect the resilience and brilliance that exist in millions of Nigerian children. Her voice continues to inspire important conversations around inclusion, empathy, and equal opportunity for every child,” he added.

Alausa noted that the celebration aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, particularly in areas relating to child welfare, youth empowerment, inclusive education, and improved access to quality learning across the nation.

He further encouraged children to remain confident in their abilities, nurture their talents, and contribute meaningfully to society, assuring them that government would continue to provide an enabling environment for their growth and development.

“Children are at the heart of our nation’s future, and we must continue to create opportunities that allow them to learn, grow, and succeed,” he stated.
