The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has condoled with the family of former Gongola State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, who died at the age of 90.
The Sultan, in a condolence message issued on Sunday and signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka on behalf of his Media Team, described the death of the former governor and elder statesman as a significant loss to his immediate family, Adamawa State and Nigeria.
He also said Tukur’s death would be felt among public servants and statesmen who had dedicated their careers to the advancement of the country.
The Sultan paid tribute to Tukur’s extensive involvement in public service, business and politics, highlighting the contributions he made to Nigeria’s development over several decades.
Among the major positions held by the deceased were Governor of the defunct Gongola State, Minister of Transportation and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Sultan noted that Tukur’s years of public service and experience established him as one of the country’s prominent elder statesmen.
He urged members of Tukur’s family, as well as his friends, associates and former colleagues, to draw comfort from the legacy he left behind and his long years of service to humanity and Nigeria.
The Islamic leader also commiserated with the Adamawa State Government and the people of the state over the loss.
He prayed Allah to give the bereaved family, the government and people of Adamawa the strength to cope with the loss.
The Sultan further prayed Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
