IMT courses are fully accredited, says Rector

All courses offered by the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu, are fully accredirated in addition to the fact that the institution has introduced a skill acquisition for all students that are passing through the Institution to acquire a trade that will enable them become employers of labour, instead of seeking for jobs on graduation.

The current rector of IMT Enugu, Professor Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, made this known when the alumni of the Institution paid him a courtesy visit as part of the event to mark the maiden edition of IMT Enugu Global Homecoming,holding in Enugu, from June 11th to June 14, 2026.

Professor Gozie disclosed that under his watch in the past 18 months where he took over the mantle of leadership of the Institution, IMT has recorded tremendous success both in academic excellence, administration and Infrastructural development.

He said the backlog of non re- accreditation of over 70 percent of courses offered by the Institution has been sorted out by his administration with the support of the current administration in Enugu state led by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, stating that some new courses are introduced..

Professor Ogbodo said :”We are working to restore the lost glory of this great Institution. When I was appointed as the Rector of Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in 2024, about 18 months ago, the accreditation of over 70 percent courses offered by the Institution expired. We worked hard to overcome the challenges.With the support of the present administration in Enugu state led by Governor Peter Mbah, I am very proud to inform you that one hundred percent of all courses offered by IMT are fully accredited.

“We have moved further to introduce eight new courses.”

The IMT rector mentioned the new courses to include the unbundling of the Department of Accountancy which currently runs a course on Taxation..

He mentioned other new courses to include Locomotive Engineering from Mechanical Engineering,

Computer Engineering, Artificial intelligence,Cyber Security and a diploma in Law.

He said IMT in collaboration with University of Nigeria, and University of Port Harcourt is offering degree programmes.

He hinted that there is a grand plan by Enugu State governnent to establish an aviation school in IMT.

According to Professor Ogbodo, one of the greatest achievements of his 18 months administration in IMT is the introduction of skill acquisition platforms for students,so they can learn a trade while in pursuit of their career, under the scheme of “One Diploma, One Skill’.

He proudly announced that IMT bakes its own bread which currently serves the Institution’s community, stating there are rooms for expansion.

Speaking further, he disclosed that IMT Management is wooing some industrial organisations to establish bases within IMT premises.

He revealed that in no distant time, the Enugu State Governor will commission the first indigenous transformer manufactured by IMT.

Professor Ogbodo, while commending the IMT alumni led by Mazi Dr.Agodi Kanu for the initiative of organising the maiden IMT Enugu Global Homecoming, stressed that alumni play leading role in the success of many reputable Institutions across the globe.

Earlier, The National President of IMT Enugu Alumni,Mazi Agodi Kanu, said the Global Homecoming of the Alumni, will become a biannual event, as it will provides avenue to revive, reconnect and interact with school mates.

He stated that the IMT alumni look forward in supporting efforts to boost academic excellence in the institution and contributing to the socio Infrastructural development of their alma mater.

He used the opportunity to disclose that the alumni association has come to fulfill its pledge of five million naira for the beautification of the IMT environment, adding that the body will award scholarship to the best performing students of the institution in both the Ordinary Diploma and Higher National Diploma categories.

As part of the activities that marked the Friday,June 12th event of IMT ENUGU Global Homecoming, the participants took a facility tour of the IMT Sculpture Park and Museum, where they were guided by the Dean, Faculty of Art,Design and Printing Tech, Dr Ayo Adewunmi and Mr Tony Okeh,Head of department of Industrial Design.

Thereafter, the participants visited the Mother of Christ Motherless Babies Home at Holy Ghost Cathedral on a charity visit.

The IMT ALUMNI Global Homecoming 2026 will continue tomorrow, Saturday,June 13th with lecture series, Fitness walk, presentation of award to members who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavours and a dinner night.
