The lawmaker representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has outlined an ambitious agricultural development agenda aimed at strengthening food security, promoting rural industrialisation and creating sustainable economic opportunities for residents ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ogah said agriculture remains the backbone of the economy of Ikwo/Ezza South and pledged to build on the gains recorded through his interventions in the sector over the years.

According to him, between 2019 and 2023, several agricultural support programmes were implemented across the constituency, including the distribution of fertilizers, improved farm inputs and financial assistance to farmers and cooperative societies.

He noted that the interventions contributed significantly to increased agricultural productivity, enhanced rural livelihoods and expanded economic opportunities for women, youths and farming communities.

The federal lawmaker stated that since 2023, he has continued to support initiatives and policies designed to promote agribusiness, encourage youth participation in agriculture and strengthen the agricultural value chain within the constituency.

Ogah stressed that his vision is to transform agriculture from a subsistence activity into a thriving commercial enterprise capable of generating wealth, creating jobs and boosting local economic development.

He further explained that his development blueprint includes expanded access to agricultural financing, strengthening cooperative societies, improving rural infrastructure and attracting more federal government agricultural programmes to Ikwo/Ezza South.

According to him, the long-term objective is to position the constituency as a major hub for commercial agriculture, food production and agro-industrial development in Ebonyi State and the South-East region.

Ogah maintained that the agenda aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope programme, which prioritises economic diversification, food sufficiency, job creation and inclusive growth.

Stakeholders in the agricultural sector have described the lawmaker’s vision as a step towards unlocking the vast agricultural potential of the constituency and improving the living standards of rural dwellers. E
