From Isaac Ojo

‎The Commissioner in charge of Information and Publicity in Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Awka, Chief Anthony Nnalue Chinedu, has reassured that the August 29th local government elections in the State will hold as scheduled.

‎Chief Chinedu, who made the announcement during a chat with journalists, maintained that the commission is taking its time to ensure that all principles of due process are observed during the election to ensure credible polls.

‎”So, as you can see, some of the staff members are out for one assignment or the other, some have gone to outstations on different assignments, all geared towards perfection of the elections,” Chief Chinedu said

‎The ANSIEC Commissioner expressed surprise that none of the political parties or their supporters are campaigning for LGA elections, since the commission lifted ban on campaigns more than one month ago.

He suspected that the development may the attributed to economic reasons, as contestants are obviously waiting for the election day to draw closer before commencing their campaigns.

‎Chief Chinedu who could give out the accurate number of the ad-hoc staff that would be engaged for polls noted not fewer than five hundred persons would be engaged by the commission.

‎He however pointed out that paucity of funds is not peculiar to the Commission, thanked Governor Charles Soludo for his commitment towards making the elections a huge success as he continue doing his best.

‎The ANSEC Commissioner expressed the preparedness of the Anambra State Electoral umpire to give the scheduled elections adequate publicity to ensure large turn out of eligible voters on election day.
