The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, with a total of 186,291 candidates having registered for the examination across 12 subjects.
In a statement issued on Thursday, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, said the candidates were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.
According to the statement, “The examination which commenced on 20th April, 2026 was successfully concluded on 30th April, 2026.”
NECO explained that the results were approved for release after the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
The statement further noted: “The result of the Examination was released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
“During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. (Mrs) Folake Olatunji David, Director, Basic Education, Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes leading to the successful release of the result.”
NECO said the meeting was attended by members of its management team and selected secondary school principals from across the country.
Meanwhile, the Award Committee has approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE resit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.
“The Re-sit examination is scheduled to hold on 22nd and 23rd July, 2026 for Mathematics and English Studies,” the statement said.
NECO explained that the resit examination is designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.
“The Re-sit examination is conducted for candidates that have conditional deficiencies in Mathematics or English studies or both.
“The Re-sit examination is to enable affected candidates remedy deficiencies in mathematics and English Studies, which allows them gain the necessary certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating a full academic year.”
