Those who suppose to change the system are busy struggling for crumbs – Barr. OAU Onyema

From Maurice Okafor, Enugu

Barrister Ogochukwu Onyema, a senior lawyer based in Enugu cum politician, has urged Nigerian electorate to vote for candidates who will be committed in driving changes that will bring about socio-political and economic development of Nigeria in the near future, instead of voting along party lines in the 2027 general elections.

He asserted that voting along party lines may produce political mediocres who are not coherent and desirous of nation building but attaining their selfish political goals.

Onyema insisted that the political terrain in Nigeria at this point in time needs political technocrats to stir the mantle of leadership.

The senior lawyer who has been nursing the ambition to serve at the National Assembly since 2010 made the plea in his recent chat with newsmen in Enugu.

He disclosed that he is in the contest for Enugu West Senatorial district electiion once again on the plartform of African Democratic Congress (ADC), having jettisoned NDC, LP and PDP.

His words, “Our system still lacks committed Nigerians who are ready to make sacrifices for advancing the cause of nation building. Most of them holding elective positions at the moment are busy struggling for crumbs,So corruption continues and Insecurity widens.”

He expressed optimism that ADC will be the party to beat in Enugu state in the 2027 electiion, stating the party has established structures in all the 260 wards in the state.

The lawyer cum politician asserted that APC has never been accepted in Enugu state, therefore most of the aspirants gunning under its platform are likely to fail.

His words, “It is still the ruling party in Enugu state. APC has not been on ground in Enugu state, so I don’t see them getting massive votes in the state.”

Answering questions on the possible deregisteration of ADC, Sir OAU Onyema described the pronouncement attributed to an Abuja high court as an act of ‘judicial rascality’, stating that he is happy that a higher court has reversed it.
