The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, has commissioned the Ministry’s Innovation Hub, reaffirming its commitment to creativity, sustainability, and institutional reform.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Ajani said the hub is designed to harness staff creativity and transform waste materials into economically valuable products. She praised the use of paper and textile remnants to produce decorative items, artworks, and office accessories, according to a press release e-signed by Mrs Mary Ali Head Press and Publicity of the Ministry within the week.
She described the initiative as a practical “waste-to-wealth” model, noting that innovation drives efficiency and productivity in public service. The hub also provides staff with entrepreneurial skills while promoting environmental sustainability.
To ensure longevity, the Permanent Secretary directed Mrs. Vera G. Azoro, Director of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement, to create a structured financial framework and a revolving fund for reinvestment and expansion.
Dr. Ajani urged staff to sustain the culture of reform beyond individual leadership, stressing that growth must be system-driven. She also underscored the role of Reform Coordination Units in advancing efficiency across MDAs.
“The true measure of this initiative is not in its commissioning but in its continuity,” she said, calling for the hub to be strengthened and sustained beyond current tenures.
She further encouraged staff to use the hub for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and skills development, while maintaining high operational standards.
The commissioning marks another milestone in the Ministry’s reform agenda, in line with the Federal Government’s vision of a more innovative, productive, and service-oriented public service.
