Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to strengthening the nation’s security architecture and supporting ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.
The minister made the declaration while dismissing recent rumours suggesting that he was considering resigning from office over the country’s security challenges. He described the reports as false, misleading and the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to create unnecessary confusion among Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Leah Katung-Babatunde, Musa stressed that he remains fully focused on his responsibilities and committed to delivering on the Federal Government’s security objectives.
“We wish to state unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms that these rumours are absolute falsehoods borne out of complete mischief,” the statement said.
The minister noted that efforts to improve security across the country are ongoing and that the Armed Forces, working in collaboration with other security agencies, continue to make significant progress in confronting threats to national peace and stability.
He reiterated his dedication to supporting the military and other security institutions in protecting lives and property, while advancing strategic initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of insecurity.
Musa also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their continued support and confidence in the nation’s security institutions, assuring citizens that the government remains resolute in its determination to safeguard the country.
He urged members of the public to disregard the resignation rumours and rely on official sources for information concerning national security matters.
The Defence Minister further called on media organisations and social media users to exercise restraint and verify information before publication, stressing that the spread of unverified reports could undermine public confidence and distract from ongoing efforts to enhance national security.
He reaffirmed that his focus remains on working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a safer and more secure Nigeria for all citizens.
