Nigeria is strengthening diplomatic engagement with Qatar to create employment opportunities for its citizens and deepen cooperation in the energy sector through a series of high-level meetings in Doha.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mahmood Yakubu, met with Qatar’s Minister of Labour, Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, on Sunday to explore new job opportunities for qualified Nigerians in the Gulf nation.
During the meeting, Ambassador Yakubu said the initiative is in line with Nigeria’s 4D Foreign Policy Doctrine, which places strong emphasis on engaging the diaspora as a driver of national development and economic growth.
The ambassador also held talks with a delegation from the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), led by its Secretary-General, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, a Nigerian. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in the global gas sector and expanding areas of mutual interest.
The GECF, headquartered in Doha, brings together some of the world’s leading gas-producing countries to promote cooperation and sustainable development in the natural gas industry.
Nigeria continues to play a key leadership role within the organisation, with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, currently serving as Chairman of the GECF Ministerial Meetings, underscoring the country’s growing influence in global energy diplomacy.
