Women under the umbrella of Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS) have reaffirmed their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political direction while calling on residents to embrace unity, peace and collective responsibility as essential ingredients for the sustainable development of Rivers State.
The women made the declaration during their monthly prayer meeting held on Thursday at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt, where participants drawn from the state’s 23 local government areas gathered to pray for peace, stability and national progress.
Speaking at the event, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby Fulton urged members to remain committed to prayers, maintaining that their collective intercession had played a significant role in preserving peace in the state.
“Our prayers of agreement have consistently contributed to averting violence and crises in the state,” a statement signed by Comrade Glory Sunday – Communications Officer of RWUS, quoted Fulton to have said.
She added that the prayer gatherings had not only fostered peace but had also brought spiritual growth and divine blessings to members.
Amaopuorubo Toby Fulton also reaffirmed the group’s loyalty to Governor Fubara, declaring that RWUS would continue to identify with and support the governor’s political direction.
The group also renewed its commitment to improving the economic fortunes of women through skills acquisition and trade enhancement programmes, describing the initiative as a major step towards boosting livelihoods across Rivers State.
Delivering a message on the theme, “Praise, Purpose, Pursuit and Productivity,” Dr. (Mrs.) Queen Karibi Botoye encouraged women not to lose hope despite prevailing challenges.
According to her, “As mere mortals it may seem an end, but to God Almighty it is just a bend, and a bend is never an end, just as there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
She urged participants to remain hopeful and steadfast in pursuing their goals.
Also speaking, Barr. (Mrs.) Adata Bio-Briggs said the organisation remained focused on empowering women with practical skills that would promote self-reliance, economic prosperity and sustainable development across the state’s 23 local government areas.
She commended members for their impressive participation in the group’s recent skills acquisition programme, noting that more than 780 women from across the state and neighbouring areas took part in the training conducted last week.
Members at the meeting expressed optimism that sustained unity, prayers and economic empowerment initiatives would enable women to continue playing a vital role in fostering peace, strengthening families and contributing to the overall development of Rivers State.
