A youth group under the umbrella of the Afenifere Youth Stakeholders Forum has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to publicly address his alleged link to UK-based activist, Dr. Sandra Duru.
Dr. Duru, who also goes by the name Prof Mgbeke, recently stirred controversy after claiming that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan offered her N200 million to falsely accuse Akpabio of being involved in organ trafficking.
During a live broadcast, Duru insisted she had never met or spoken with the Senate President. Despite this, clips from the same video began circulating online, with social media users pointing to what they claimed was a call log connecting her to Akpabio.
In response to the ongoing speculation, the Afenifere youth group issued a statement on Wednesday, urging Akpabio to address the matter.
The release was signed by the group’s National President, Kehinde Olatunde; Secretary General, Bukola Esther; and Publicity Secretary, Duke Abimbola.
The group expressed concern over the Senate President’s silence, stating: “We have waited for days expecting the office of the Senate President to speak out on his alleged conversation with Sandra Duru but that has not happened. This is a worrisome situation considering the international dimension this matter has since assumed. There have been claims that Duru is a serial blackmailer, and we expect the Senate President to clear every doubt that he has nothing to do with such a person.Nigerians would wish to know the truth about the call log, which was allegedly mistakenly projected during the live video session.”
The forum also urged law enforcement agencies to investigate Dr. Duru’s activities, amid claims that she may be using her activism as a front for defamation and extortion.
“The United States of America should not be a safe haven for such a character, who will even descend to the level of dragging former minister, Oby Ezekwesili into such a thing. We urge the United States of America security to close in on her and investigate all her activities, which have all been put to question by the revelation coming out from her live video,” the statement concluded.
