The conference aims to strengthen the capacities of African legislative aides and build strong regional partnerships to reinforce parliamentary and democratic processes in Africa.

Speaking at a press engagement, High Chief (Barr.) Emeka Nwala, Chairman of the National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum, said the event will also ratify the establishment of the African Legislative Aides Forum, a platform for pursuing collective desires for parliamentary and democratic development in Africa.

“We are pleased to seek your support and collaboration for adequate and positive coverage and your buy-in towards boosting the success of the event,” Nwala said.

The conference is expected to attract over 7,500 legislative aides from across African national parliaments and Nigerian state assemblies, with dignitaries including the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, in attendance.

The Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly of the Republic of South Sudan, Rt. Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba, will deliver the keynote address.

Nwala highlighted the importance of the conference, noting that it is the first time African legislative aides are coming together to brainstorm, build networks, and capacities for the common good and development of the region.

The conference will explore the growing strategic roles of legislative aides in legislative research, democratic accountability, digital governance, and institutional performance.

Nwala expressed concern over the collapse of democracy in some African nations and the struggle of parliamentary structures in some countries, emphasizing the need to prioritize initiatives to strengthen African legislative aides.

The event is expected to be a significant milestone in the history of Africa, with the inauguration of the regional legislative forum.
