The Nigerian Army has clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a blogger and social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, following concerns raised over his interactions with serving soldiers online.
In a statement issued on May 2, 2026, the Army said its attention was drawn to complaints by some soldiers regarding feeding and welfare issues, which were shared on social media by Chidiebere. It noted that while the grievances are being reviewed, investigations were also launched into a possible breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and attempts to misinform the public.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, stated that preliminary findings revealed that the soldiers engaged the blogger on a wide range of issues, during which he allegedly encouraged conversations capable of inciting discontent within the military. She added that some of the exchanges bordered on subversive matters, raising concerns about discipline and national security.
According to the Army, attempts by civilians to influence or exploit military personnel for acts of subversion could have far-reaching implications for the integrity of the Armed Forces and national stability.
The statement further disclosed that Chidiebere was apprehended alongside the soldiers involved for investigation. While the soldiers remain in military custody, he has since been handed over to relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to operating within the ambit of the law, assuring the public of its resolve to safeguard national security while ensuring that justice is served through collaboration with appropriate agencies.
