Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded fresh operational gains in the fight against terrorism and banditry, neutralising suspected Lakurawa terrorists, recovering weapons, and rescuing dozens of rustled livestock in Sokoto and Katsina states.

The operations, conducted under sustained military offensives in the North-West, targeted criminal elements in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State and Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, revealed this in a statement on Friday, explaining that troops swiftly responded to intelligence about an attempted arson attack by members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group on a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza LGA.

Osoba said troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, killing two of the attackers, while others fled the scene following superior military firepower. He added that troops later combed the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a motorcycle suspected to have been used by the terrorists.

In another operation, troops on a fighting patrol in Jibia LGA of Katsina State encountered suspected terrorists moving with rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai Settlement.

Following an exchange, the troops forced the criminals to retreat, abandoning 62 rustled animals, which were subsequently recovered and returned to their owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia.

The military reaffirmed its resolve to sustain pressure on terrorist and bandit groups across the North-West, while calling on residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.
